Any Possible Variations:

You can substitute garlic powder and onion powder if you do not have them fresh. If you do so you should not sauté them but add them along with the chicken broth and tomato sauce.

If you want to go fresh and not use tomato sauce or you have run short of tomato sauce, you can substitute it with chopped and stewed unseasoned tomatoes along with the liquid or use a can of diced tomatoes including the liquid. If you like your Spanish rice with a little more seasoning then you might add Rotel salsa or jarred salsa instead of the tomato sauce.

To the Spanish rice you can add diced chicken which has been cooked or grilled and bury it in the when it is simmering.
